2010 NDFLBBA ANNUAL SEMINAR
The Northern District of Florida's Bankruptcy Bar Association will hold its Annual Seminar and Meeting on Friday, October 1, 2010, from 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. at the newly-remodeled Hotel Duval in downtown Tallahassee. This year’s topics include current issues in both consumer and corporate bankruptcy for both debtors’ and creditors’ counsel (7.3 Florida CLE hours are pending), and the registration fee is $200 per person (no increase over last year!). As always, breakfast, lunch, and coffee breaks will be provided for attendees, and the Annual Meeting/election of Board members will take place during lunch.
There are a few changes and additions to the structure of the Seminar this year. First, the final portion of the Seminar (the Clerk's Update and the View from the Bench) will be held in the beautiful Tallahassee Bankruptcy Courthouse, just a few short blocks from Hotel Duval. For those of you who have not had a chance to see the restored federal courthouse, this will be the perfect opportunity to enjoy its historic charm. Also, the View from the Bench will be conducted in a round-table format, allowing attendees to submit questions during the morning portion of the Seminar for discussion by Judges Killian and Shulman during the final segment of the day. Finally, the Clerk's Office will be conducting its first annual bankruptcy support staff seminar simultaneously with the attorneys' Seminar, which will be live in Tallahassee and videocast in Pensacola for FREE.
Additional Seminar events include our annual Golf Tournament on Thursday, September 30th, at Capital City Country Club (contact Ed Rude at 850-222-2311 for more information), and our annual Cocktail Reception that night. This year's Cocktail Reception is being held at the Tallahassee Antique Auto Museum, which has been heralded by the Tallahassee Democrat as "part shrine, part history lesson, part packrat's paradise, part garage and part art gallery -- except, in this case, the art has four spotless wheels and can go from 0 to 60 faster than a Cezanne can." In addition to cars, the museum is home to items such as baseball cards, antique golf balls and clubs, 100-year-old brass-bladed fans, art objects from Thailand, toy cars and trucks, children's riding toys, neon signs, knives, stained glass, a horse from a carousel, and a children's barber chair shaped like an airplane. A tour of the Museum will be included FREE with your Seminar registration, and transportation to and from the Museum from the Hotel will be provided. If you or your firm would like to sponsor the Cocktail Reception, please contact Chuck Hoskin (NDFLBBA Treasurer) at 850-433-6581, or indicate the sponsorship level on the attached registration form and forward your check to Chuck at: Emmanuel Sheppard & Condon, 30 S. Spring St., Pensacola, FL 32502.
For those of you who don't live in Tallahassee, there is a block of rooms reserved at Hotel Duval for Seminar attendees on both Thursday and Friday nights. The Seminar room rate is $119/night (a $50 savings over last year's rate!). Please contact the hotel directly to make reservations (850-224-6000).
